How to install Quilt in Minecraft
Install the Quilt loader with its official installer, create the profile and add Quilted Fabric API to use most Fabric and Quilt mods.
Quilt is a mod loader for Minecraft Java Edition compatible with most Fabric mods and with Quilt-specific mods. It installs with an official installer similar to Fabric's.
Before you start
- Open the official launcher at least once with the game version you will use, then close it.
- On Windows you can use the
.exeinstaller, which uses the Java bundled with Minecraft. The universal.jarneeds Java 17 or later installed.
1. Download the installer
Download it only from the official site: quiltmc.org/en/install.
2. Run the installer
- Open the installer and select the Client tab.
- Choose the Minecraft version and the Quilt Loader version (leave the latest).
- Keep Generate profile ticked so it creates the launcher profile.
- Press Install.
If you did not tick profile generation, create one in the launcher's Installations tab choosing the Quilt version.
3. Install Quilted Fabric API
Almost all mods need the Quilted Fabric API / Quilt Standard Libraries bundle (QFAPI/QSL). Download it for your Minecraft version and copy the .jar into the mods folder. It replaces Fabric API: do not install both.
4. Add your mods
Copy the .jar files into the mods folder:
- Windows:
%APPDATA%\.minecraft\mods - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods - Linux:
~/.minecraft/mods
You can use mods released for Quilt and most released for Fabric.
5. Launch the game
Select the Quilt profile in the launcher and press Play.
Common problems
- A Fabric mod does not load. A minority of Fabric mods are not Quilt compatible. Check whether the author lists Quilt support or look for an alternative.
- I have both Fabric API and QFAPI. Remove Fabric API: QFAPI already includes what is needed.
- The installer .jar does not open. Install Java 17 or later from Adoptium or use the
.exeon Windows.
